Georgios Polemis
In 1956, Georgios Polemis, a mechanical engineer, laid the foundation of what would become one of Southern Europe’s leading pump manufacturers. Polemis had previously worked at the pioneering ROSTRO company of Rontiris-Stroumboulis. When ROSTRO closed its doors, Polemis embarked on his own path, focusing on mechanical studies with a particular emphasis on pumps.
Together with Georgios Drakos, a former colleague, he established the company’s first factory in Athens. This marked the official beginning of DP Pumps – Drakos Polemis.
Georgios Polemis was known for his perfectionism and desire to oversee every detail. Strict yet fair, simple and modest in character, he was also a tireless worker, often bringing projects home to continue his studies and designs. He was impeccably honest and punctual with salaries, ensuring high employee satisfaction. Remarkably, all the executives who started with him eventually retired from the company, reflecting the stable and respectful work environment he cultivated.
From humble beginnings in a small warehouse in 1956, Polemis grew the company into a modern factory by 1974, employing a team of 100 people. A devoted engineer with a passion for applied mechanics, he was regarded as one of the greatest engineers of his generation. So dedicated was he to the company and its manufacturing that he declined an academic position at the National Technical University of Athens, choosing to focus entirely on building the business.
